Commissioned by Great Gulf, Shea’s Victoria features 420 square feet of hand-painted glass to be installed at the base of new condominium towers at the corner of Victoria and Richmond streets. The artist designed colourful brushstrokes that are based on blueprints from the Beaux-Arts vaudeville theatre that once stood on the site over a century ago. The staggered repetitions of patterns reference the first “moving pictures”, and their luminous appearance is also a nod to filmic celluloid. As with her other series, the public art project has provided new material for Harvey’s painting practice.
