INTERPLAY: The Atrium’s Living Canvas
This public art project transforms the lobby into an engaging visual experience. The artist’s seven large-scale paintings, arranged in a banner configuration, capture the ever-shifting play of light and shadow in the glass atrium, bringing the outside world indoors. The office lobby is open to the public from Monday to Friday, 8 am to 5 pm.
SPACE RE-IMAGINED
The artist re-imaged the lobby’s interior design, directing the space to be re-painted in a single neutral colour. This causes architectural elements to recede, emphasizing exterior aspects and creating a canvas-like environment for the artwork.
SIX HANDCRAFTED LAYERS OF PAINT
The 40-foot-long project is the culmination of six months of creative exploration. Each painting comprises six carefully crafted layers, from architectural blueprints to subtle reflections of trees beyond the glass. This project challenged the artist to balance rigorous planning across the 40-foot span with artistic spontaneity in the studio. The result is a harmonious blend of structure and nature, inviting viewers to explore the connection between the built environment and the organic world outside.
SUBTLE CHANGES THROUGHOUT THE DAY
This large-scale artwork resonates with its surroundings. Shadows cast on the paintings change subtly throughout the day as the daylight shifts across the sky.
DESIGNED IN COLLABORATION
Designed in collaboration with a well-known fine art service company, Museumpros in Toronto, the installation uses fire-rated, non-combustible aluminum materials to ensure safety and long-term display in a public space.
