“The paintings are lush in colour and tactile in materiality. And while they reference the motion of fairground structures, they are also, perhaps primarily, about paint and what paint can do on a canvas. Harvey plays with what she terms the “physicality of paint”: how paint moves, adheres, and falls in drips down the canvas in reaction to and defiance of gravity in turns, just like a carousel. The dizzying and wondrous sensation of wheels and rounds and carousels is captured not only in the choice of colour or inclusion of drips but in the intricate layering of paint that moves away from the traditional approach of layering dark to light.” – Corinna Ghaznavi, Carousel catalogue, Galerie Borchardt, Hamburg, Germany, 2013
