Current: noun 1 a movement of electricity analogous to the flow of a stream of water. Origin: from Latin currere ‘run’. – Merriam-Webster Dictionary
Currents is a series of two dozen acrylic paintings that evoke streaming rivers of electricity. The most recent chapter in an ongoing pre-occupation with states of fluidity and reflection, these images explore the interchangeability of the solid and the fluid.
Infused with a sense of ambiguity and wonder, their three-dimensional layers transport the viewer into a dream-like visual space. These paintings capture fleeting, fluid moments built on the metaphorical qualities of reflection and dissolution. The images are elusive, like fragile dreams emerging and submerging from watery streams of the subconscious.
Inspired by night photographs of the city skyline photographed at low shutter speed, details are blurred, trapped within successive layers of paint and acrylic gel medium built up to create a three-dimensional effect.
