Carousel, 2013, Skulpturenpark, Stade, Germany, welded steel, 40,000 linear feet of recycled baler twine, solar powered led lights, 10 x 18 x 18 feet
Since I began painting images of carnival lights, I have
wanted to salvage a used midway ride. I collaborated with a
local designer who welded a spinning steel structure that is
easily dismantled. I wanted to revisit the basic roots of the
spectacle and explore how the simplest of constructions can
imbue a sense of magic and celebration.
